Nine Years after Bill Bowerman’s passing, his hand made shoes are selling for top dollar.
October 23rd , Tacee Webb, owner of Seaplane, sold two pairs of original Bill Bowerman hand made shoes back to Nike.
Bill Bowerman one of the original founders of Blue Ribbon Sports, later known as Nike Inc, was an exceptional coach turned designer. Best known for experimenting with the idea of using waffle-ironed rubber to create a new sole for footwear that would grip but would be lightweight. Bowerman and Knight Revolutionized Sneakers, and brought fashion to Footwear.

these shoes will tour Nike’s various locations and will be preserved
in its Archives.
The two very special pairs of Bowerman’s shoes (above) and a 1975 T-shirt sold for $12,000. Seaplane is pleased to have sold the work of one of Portland’s most celebrated designers.

“i have been fascinated with miniatures and all kinds of small objects for as long as i can remember. as a child i spent hours with my dollhouses, collecting, making, arranging, and rearranging tiny pieces of furniture and accessories. this interest in small scale objects and processes has stayed with me as an adult and translates into metalsmithing and jewelry making.”

Last night was the finale of Project Runway- I decided to sit it out, with plans to youtube the past episodes that I missed. Then around 7ish a few friends on the east coast emailed me the results-That Leanne had won! It was a mix of sadness and then crazy happiness! Sadness because I really wanted to be watching it with friends! But of course I couldn’t be any more thrilled for Leanne! Niki texted me later telling me “Maybe is will make us (Portland designers) seem more valid and less like people who make clothes in the woods!” Indeed!
I did end up watching the final episode this morning, and have to say her work has evolved so much in such a short period of time! I wanted every piece in her collection! This is a wonderful well deserved accomplishment for Leanne! And I’m honored to own one of her dresses- with or without her winning results! Congratulations to Leanne from Seaplane! Yay!!!! xoxoxo
