Stores on NW 23rd are known for going all out for their holiday window displays, and then there is Seaplane. We tend to keep our window very minimal and let the clothing speak for itself. Every year I string up the same strand of tinsel and hang the same old vintage bulbs I found at the good will bins years ago. I always have intentions of doing some kind of spectacular installation but the usual excuse of being way too busy has kept me from doing so.

This year, local artist and floral designer Wes Younie http://younieland.com/ approached us about doing a window. After only a few hours of arranging bits of fake snow, moss, mushrooms, smokey colored birds, and hollowed birch logs our window has gone from perhaps minimally mundane to a sort of winter fairy tale.

As well as windows, garden, and floral design, Wes finds time to paint and illustrate quirky animal portraits and whimsical nature scenes. Though the holidays have mostly passed, this scenic moment is too good break down just yet… if you find yourself on nw 23rd anytime soon , it’s worth a peek in. look for the extremely cute, plush red and white dotted mushroom! -Kate
