Lorna Leedy, the creator of the clothing line Fancy Pony Land, is hands down one of the most unique designers that we carry at Seaplane. She travels around from place to place, carrying her sewing studio in a Eurovan Camper. In the past few years Fancy Pony Land has had its headquarters in out of the way digs near towns like Cowdrey and Dinosaur, Colorado; Redford Texas and Sagle, Idaho.
Her Fall 2006 collection is inspired by Bestiary-an exploration of medieval heraldry & illuminated manuscripts. Perhaps my favorite piece from the line that we have is the Nebuchadnezzar Skirt- a canvas aline skirt with delicate brightly colored birds appliqued in a circle on the front. Nebuchadadnezzar?….right..I googled for you…King Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562) was the most important king of the Second or Neo-Babylonian Empire. He is best known for his Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. some inspiration!
